I decided to knit a sweater with Shirley Padden’s Craftsy tutorial, Handknit Garment Design. I was fascinated to watch how my sweater evolved. I started with one idea…
I thought, “looks like pajamas.” Padden has you work in pieces, so I started that way, but quickly decided I had to work in the round. If I can avoid seaming, I do. After I did the first round of “bells,” I felt I needed another row. This is when I discovered the pattern increases by 1 stitch per repeat by the end of the pattern, so in order to not have the work grow each time, I needed to decrease before continuing to the second round. One decision after another had to be made, pulling me away from any original drawings. How deep did I want the scoop neck? When should I stop with the twisted stitch rows? I think the final product is sweet, though, and a great improvement on my preliminary drawings. Now I have to extrapolate the pattern for larger sizes.
